Customized, on-site training programs focused on biblical principles, foundational concepts, and the goals and needs of your organization.
How long are your on-site training programs and who should go through them first?
A good place to start with this question is reading our post, Five Ways to Make a Training Program Fail. It describes five approaches that are very likely to lead to failure and frustration:
- Be spiritually unprepared
- Do not start with the leadership
- Make it voluntary
- Go too fast
- Do not provide adequate time
In an effort to avoid these common pitfalls, we typically recommend a two day format that starts with the leadership of the organization.
Why do you encourage organizational leaders to go through the training first?
- We respect leaders: We assume it is their privilege and responsibility to lead change (1 Thess. 5:12-13).
- It models intentionality: It demonstrates to everyone in the organization that it is a high priority.
- Common framework: It helps the leadership to get on the same page with their goals and plans.
How many people can participate?
In most cases, we recommend that the core leadership of the organization go through our training programs first. If possible, it is helpful if that group can be 30 individuals or less to allow for more personal interaction and dialogue. Then, trainings can be provided for a group of any size. But, keep in mind, the larger the group, the more difficult it is to incorporate small/large group dialogue and engagement. We will work with your leadership to select an effective group size, venue, format, etc.
How much do custom trainings cost?
For example, a two day training led by two of our staff is typically around $5000 plus travel/housing expenses–which covers travel arrangements, pre-planning, content customization, and the training program. That is a significant investment, but the cost typically comes out to about $200-$300 per participant (or less). That is much less expensive then it would cost for those individuals to travel to a multiday conference. Plus, you have the added advantage of having the content customized to the needs of your organization. Please contact us for a quote and date availability.
What topics do you cover?
We work with your leadership, collect data, etc. to select the training topics. We recommend that you take the Self-Inventory to learn about the topics we typically emphasize. Here are some examples:
- What is the difference between race, ethnicity, nationality, and culture? What are social constructs?
- What does the Bible say about race/ethnicity?
- What does the Bible teach about prejudice, discrimination, and racism?
- Is our society post-racial? If not, how does a person’s race still effect their life experiences?
- What are racial disparities? Are they increasing or decreasing? What causes and perpetuates them?
- What is the relationship between personal prejudice and systemic injustice?
- What are the historical roots of racial injustice and division in the U.S.?
- What can we learn from the history of racial injustice and divisions in our society and Christian organizations?
- Is it unbiblical and unfair to give special treatment to some people and groups? Is that “reverse racism”?
- Does the Bible address power dynamics? If so, how are we instructed to share power in Christian communities?
- What is a white normative culture? How is it perpetuated? How can organizations create more inclusive environments?
- What is the biblical model for racial/ethnic inclusion and justice?
- What are some common challenges that leaders face? What are biblical, effective approaches to addressing them?

I appreciated how (the training) provided a biblical framework but also had practical applications. I liked that it addressed the issue from both sides and very different backgrounds.

How do you cover the topics?
- Scripture: We incorporate biblical passages and themes throughout all of the content.
- Videos: We show short videos of case studies and scenarios to spark dialogue and illustrate key concepts.
- Exercises: We do many exercises as individuals, small groups, and a large group.
- Dialogue: Small and large group dialogue plays a central role throughout our time. Questions are encouraged.
- Presentations: We do “teach” in segments, but our goal is to help participants discover concepts and develop action steps on their own through exercises and dialogue.
How do you choose the content?
- Prayer and Dialogue: We spend time in prayer and listening/talking with the leadership of the organization to determine the content that will be most beneficial.
- Gathering data: Whenever possible, we collect data in the organization using our climate survey and/or self-assessment. We use the results to customize the content to the needs of the training participants.
- Experience: We have worked with thousands of Christian leaders. The content is a combination of the topics and exercises we have found to be the most beneficial.
- Experts: We have enjoyed learning from a diverse group of experts and practitioners across the U.S. The content of our training programs reflect a wide variety of perspectives and research.
Do participants leave with practical action steps?
We typically include suggestions for practical action steps and opportunities for participants to reflect on how they will apply the content. However, we also recognize that effective action steps typically:
- Come from the Holy Spirit (not us)
- Require prayer, reflection, and research
- Are discussed with teammates
- Are processed with a coach, mentor, or supervisor
It is typically not possible for the above items to take place during our training programs. Therefore, we focus on helping the participants to have a biblical, effective foundation for selecting effective action steps after the training is over.
Can we use your materials for internal trainings? If so, how much does it cost?
Yes. The cost varies depending on the needs of the organization. There are two components:
- Cost for the trainers training: We typically charge $2000/day for 2 staff facilitators (plus transportation and housing) plus a one-time setup fee of $1000 per trip. So, if we determine two days would be sufficient for the trainers training then the cost would be $5000 + T&E.
- Trainers Annual Fee: This includes the usage of the materials (videos, powerpoint, handouts, etc.) and, if desired, on-going connection with the trainer(s). The fee varies depending on the number of trainers, how often the materials will be used, plans for on-going connection, etc. It would most likely be between $100-$1000 per trainer per year.
